Job Description: Legislative & Communications Assistant

The office of Kings-Hants MP Kody Blois is hiring a Legislative and Communications Assistant to support the Member’s parliamentary and communications functions in Ottawa.
Responsibilities
- Triage the Member’s email account, and work with the Constituency Assistant and Casework Manager to ensure correspondence is handled.
- Responsible for the preparation, design, and processing of all digital and print newsletters, including Householders and ten-percenters.
- Responsible for designing all MP advertisements in coordination with constituency office staff.
- Assist with drafting content for the Member’s social media channels (website/Facebook/Twitter/Instagram) and social media monitoring.
- Prepare materials for QP, speaking notes, and recommendations for use in the House and Committees.
- Research and prepare for speeches and SO 31s (Member statements) to be used in the House and Committees.
- Research, maintain files, monitor the media, and brief the Member of critical areas and riding-related matters, priorities and issues.
- Construct and maintain a comprehensive media database with appropriate local, regional, national and international elements, as well as focus on reporters and columnists who focus on issues relevant to the MP’s portfolios and interests.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key individuals and organizations in the community, working on similar issues.
- Attend Committee meetings with MP as needed.
- Coordinate Caucus meetings and agendas on behalf of the MP.
- Arrange and attend stakeholder meetings with the Member as required.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
- Other duties as required affiliated with day-to-day operations and special projects.
Qualifications
- Relevant post-secondary education or equivalency.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and emphasis on written).
- Strong organizational skills and research skills.
- The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Sound political judgement, tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to use Adobe suite of programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro) or equivalent.
- Proficient in the Microsoft suite of programs.
Asset Qualifications
- Knowledge of the riding of Kings-Hants (or a general understanding of rural issues).
- The ability to read, write and speak French.
Compensation
The Office of MP Kody Blois would like to work with potential candidates to negotiate a salary based on requisite experience, starting at $75,000 with flexibility.
